Borden Family Reunion

Each year 2 different couples volunteer to pick the place and activities, food, games, etc. for our reunion. This year was Uncle Theo and his daughters turn to organize it. We have a reunion every year the last of July or 1st week of Aug. That way we know when it's going to be, and the place is announced later when the couples decide where they want it. This year was in Eastern Colorado-out in the flat, windy, hot plains. Next year we decided to have it in the Mountains of Colorado again. So we kind of trade off. It didn't even matter how hot it was, we just enjoyed being around each other and had fun. We rented the town community center, so it had AC and a huge fan to help keep us cool. There were over 50 of us there this year.
It was a very special year for my Uncle Theo and his wife Margie, celebrating their 50th anniversary! Uncle Theo surprised my aunt with a new ring, that totally surprised her. It was so sweet to see that. ( I got to anxious on this picture and didn't let it focus. Sorry)

A couple cousins that I hadn't seen since we were kids. It was great to reunite again. One cousin, BJ, lives in Florida, so now I have a new place to go in the winter. :)

More family enjoying each other's company and good food. We had a picnic the first night, at my aunt and uncles. Lots of fun.

More cousins enjoying each other. Don't you just love those shots, when someone takes a picture with your mouth full? :)

Some of the older aunts and uncles taking it easy in the shade at the BBQ.

One of my nephew's and his wife, came from California. Jeff is in the Navy and we were thankful he was able to get the time off to come, and that his wife was able to be there also. We are so proud of him. Usually he likes to have a water fight or two, but this year...was different. :) Hmmm, I wonder why????

My other nephew Brian, who is in the Army Reserves, got to have his 2 week leave, from the desert, to be with us. We are thankful he made it home to be with us. We are so proud of him also. We pray for a safe return home for him soon, I hope.

We went out to the homestead where Grandma and Grandpa Borden use to live, and there were these markings on the wall of the barn. We were trying to figure out what it might have meant. Someone was definitely counting something. I hope it was a good thing.

1932 Ford Model A

My brothers pride and joy!! He and his wife had grandpa Borden's 1932 Model A restored! It was BEAUTIFUL! He brought it to our family reunion in Eastern Colorado and gave us all rides, but he made sure he was the one with the keys! :)

Chick-a-Dee Sisters

This was our shirt we had made in Manitou Springs, Colo. The gal that made them did a great job.
Left to Right--Glenda, the youngest-- Wanda, the oldest and JoAnn and Alice in between.

Sister trip-Aug. 2010

Some of the clouds rolling in, while we were on top of Pikes Peak. We were higher than the clouds. It wasn't long before it was so cloudy, we couldn't see a thing.
I'm kind of starting at the end of our 5 days together with my sisters.

Glenda, my youngest sister, and I standing at the bottom of Seven Falls, near Colorado Springs, Colorado on Fri. Aug. 6th. Our other 2 sisters had already gone home. It was beautiful.

Alice, and I getting ready to go white water rafting, near Buena Vista, Colorado. We did not take a camera with us on this trip, because...I didn't want to loose it or get it wet. This was one of the things, Alice had always wanted to do. So...for her 60th birthday, WE DID IT!! She was able to mark it off her "bucket list." We got up early @ 5:30 am, (early for me anyway) drove about 1 1/2 hours and got our gear, and had a ride down the Arkansas River in class 1,2, and 3 rapids. It was the first time for time for both of us and wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it might be. So...we're both are ready to do it again, only with more excitement! Possibly class 4 or 5 rapids. Maybe, some day.?!? Neither one of us paddled, we just enjoyed the trip, and watched our guide do his magic with the raft. It was fun!

We also took the Cog Train to the top of Pikes Peak. It was a beautiful trip. We took the mid morning train, and by the time we got to the top, the clouds were already rolling in. Almost every afternoon, the clouds would roll in and it would pour rain and hail at times. So, I didn't get to many pictures.

One evening, after the rain storm, we went to the Flying W Ranch, where they served our food, on tin plates. We had BBQ chicken, beans, baked potato, and a role. The best part was the live entertainment from a group of cow boys that played the fiddle, guitar, banjo, base fiddle, and sang all at the same time. They sang old country songs. I don't remember the name of the group, but they sure were good. We all enjoyed that a lot. We were sitting close to the front and they asked us about our hats during the concert. I'll tell you about them later.

Another view and proof we did make it to the top of Pikes Peak, with the elevation of over 14,000 feet. Our oldest sister, needed to take a break, and get rid of the altitude sickness. She was OK a little later.

Glenda and I being silly. We named ourselves, the Chick-a-Dee sisters. Don't we look like chicks? :) People would ask us if we were a singing group of something, and we told them we were just 4 sisters having fun.

Alice and Glenda, posing in the Garden of the Gods, near Colorado Springs. Another storm was coming in from the other side so we left pretty quickly. We really didn't want to get caught in it.

Paul, my older brother, had Grandpa Borden's 1931 Ford Model A remodeled and brought it to our family reunion in eastern Colorado the last of July. He even had the oooga horn on it. Him and his wife spent a lot getting it remodeled and we all really appreciate it and loved it. He gave anyone who wanted a ride. But...Paul made sure he was the only one with the keys. :)

Yes, Glenda had broken her arm about a month before our trip. She was mowing their grass and hit something and the "suicide knob'', on the steering wheel, whipped around and broke her arm. It was pretty painful at the time, but she did really well when we were together.

Each day we all wore the same color of blouse and we added the same hats to wear. We had a shirt made also with the 4 of us on it. It was delightful and a wonderful time of bonding and having fun.

Sister trip Aug. 2010

We 4 sisters had the privilege to hang out together for 5 days, the first week of August, after our family reunion, above Manitou Springs, Colorado. We had such a great time. This picture is only ONE of the fun things we got to do.
My oldest sister, Wanda-the mother figure, is sitting on my left. Glenda, my youngest sister, and the goofy one, in the purple. Alice, the more serious one is standing on my far left. Then there is me, in red, the trouble maker. What a combination we make. :) We all got along really well for 5 days, and everyone was very compatible and flexible. We enjoyed being around each other and hopefully it won't be 12 years before "just the girls" get to do this again.
